Traditional Stuffing Recipe
|
Can we really call it a traditional stuffing recipe when it's made in a crockpot? Sure! This recipe makes 12 servings.
What You Need
1 cup butter
2 cups chopped onion
2 cups chopped celery
1/4 cup chopped parsley
2 (8-oz.) cans sliced mushrooms, drained
12 cups day-old bread cubes (allow to dry overnight)
1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1 1/2 teaspoons dried sage leaves
1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
3 1/2 cups chicken broth
2 eggs, beaten
What To Do
1. Melt butter over low heat in a heavy skillet. Add onion, celery, parsley, and mushrooms and cook, stirring frequently, 2-3 minutes.
2. Place bread cubes in a large bowl. Pour vegetable mixture this mixture over bread cubes, add all seasonings and toss well.
3. Add enough broth to moisten, a little at a time, tossing with a fork after each addition. (Remember, the eggs are yet to come, so don't make the stuffing too wet.)
4. Add eggs and mix well.
5. Transfer stuffing mixture into crockpot without packing it in. Use a 5- to 6-quarter crockpot.
6. Cover; cook on low 6-8 hours. Add just a sprinkling of chicken stock over the top once or twice during the cooking time.
